Nice post! The comment about a nice tall drink to sip is a good one - something I really appreciate about tiki drinks. Especially when it's a double Jet Pilot :)

True about the crushed ice for the Mai Tai - and the mint!

Just let the Tiki seduce you and enrich your life, you won`t regret it - its definetily something special about a tall tiki drink

I made a extremely rare find here a few days ago, you simply do not find tiki mugs here in the second hand shops..at least not so easily but behind a bunch of shakers i actually did!

Last night i had a Kamehameha Punch.

One: Look out dude! The Tiki way is subtle, yet seductive. If you let it get its hooks into you at all, it never really lets go....
Two: My Mai Tai recommendation is to goose the lime juice to 3/4 oz, and replace all the rum with two ounces of Mount Gay XO.

I think the most important thing about a Mai Tai is using crushed or shaved ice. I use a Mai Tai glass that I found on e-bay and fill that sucker to the rim with crushed ice. The ice dilutes the drink just the right amount. I use Vic's recipe and actually prefer Appelton Rum which is pretty damn cheap but I find very flavorful.

SM Here's my house Mai Tai:

1 oz Appleton Extra (12 yr)
1 oz Clement Rhum VSOP
3/4 oz lime
1/2 oz Orange Curacao (house made - Clement creole shrub is nice, or Cointreau)
1/2 oz Orgeat

shake with crushed ice and garnish with spent lime shell and mint sprig (v. important) This Mai Tai recipe will make you understand as well.
