Whether you want to learn about those small bottles of bitters your bartender is adding by the dash to your drink or you want to invite friends over and mix up some cocktails Mad Men-style, we can teach you everything you need to know. The Scofflaws are professionally trained spirit and cocktail educators and have spent years learning techniques, recipes and the history of spirits and cocktails. Our original recipes have been published in magazines such as Imbibe and Mutineer and recipe books such as the Official Tales of the Cocktail Recipe Book. Marshall’s homemade bitters can be found behind bars in DC, New York, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. We now offer our expertise and knowledge to help you have the best in-home drinking experience possible. In fact, AskMen.com named our classes as one of the top 10 things to do in Washington, D.C. beyond bar hopping!
Our classes are varied, informative and fun. Generally, for every class each student receives a welcome glass of punch based on the class’ theme, two or three sample cocktails related to the class subject and recipe cards to take home. Each class is also followed by a question and answer period where you can ask our instructor any questions you may have. A sampling of past classes is listed below:
- Home Bartending 101 – Learn the techniques used at your favorite bar! Each student receives a professional bartending kit to take home.
- History of Cocktail Bitters
- American Spirits
- Cocktails of Mad Men
- Introduction to Whiskey and Tastings

- Introduction to Amaro and Tastings
- Holiday Classics and Winter Warmers

Interested in learning about something you don’t see here? No problem! Our instructors can create a custom class based on what you are interested in learning.
Class prices are dependent on the number of students, class location and specifics tailored to the individual groups, i.e. number cocktails, length of class, travel/set-up/supplies needed, etc.
