If you’ve been keeping tabs on the DC bar/cocktail scene, no doubt you’ve heard of The Passenger.? The Passenger is Tom and Derek Brown’s new watering hole and house of libations.? Tom, formerly of Cork Wine Bar, will be working the front bar serving beer, wine and cocktails.? But don’t expect a cocktail menu!? Much as he constructed cocktails at Cork, Tom will make cocktails around what the individual customer wants.? Looking for something citrus-y with a rye base?? Maybe something bitter forward?? Let Tom know and he’ll construct the cocktail for you.
In addition to Tom’s work out front, Derek, Tom’s brother and formerly of The Gibson, will be working in a much smaller back-room called “The Columbia Room.”? This will be a cocktail geek’s paradise!? The Columbia Room will have only 20 seats and 30 reservations per night.? Derek has described the Columbia Room as a “omakase style” cocktail laboratory.
Well, after much waiting, the Going Out Gurus are reporting that The Passenger is set to open at 5 pm this Thursday, Nov. 19th!? I’m heading to The Passenger tomorrow night for a media preview and I hope to provide pictures and a healthy report leading up to Thursday’s opening.

This is pretty exciting for the DC cocktail scene and I can’t wait to see everyone there!
Cheers!
If I can get a res, this will be my bar of choice for my b-day celebration in Dec.
Oh good to hear that. But why must they open it the day the Daiquiri-Event takes place. That is such a Skylla and Charybdis Situation….
