And no, I’m not talking about the movie . . .
One of the most beautiful aspects of the resurgence of cocktail culture is the glassware.? The bartenders are using fresh juices, homemade sweeteners, tonics, bitters and liqueurs, and premium spirits.? The resulting cocktails and garnishes are beautiful in and of themselves.? But they need a magnificent receptacle to complete the package.
I’m sure you’ve marveled at the glassware your favorite watering hole uses for their bespoke cocktails.? But have you tried to find those great glasses in a store?? Most cocktail glasses in places like Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Macy’s, Crate and Barrel, etc. are HUGE!? Holding anywhere from 8 to 15 ounces (or more!) these glasses are not made for classic cocktails.? So where do you find the correct size and types of glasses?
The very best location I’ve found is my local Goodwill!? You most likely won’t find full sets of glassware, but having an eclectic collection is part of the fun.? And the best part?? COST!? Most glasses I buy are $.39 or $.59 each.? Sometimes, if the glass is particularly ornate, it’ll be $.99.? Every time I donate things to Goodwill, I run in and check their glassware selections.? After several trips, and very little money, I have a glassware collection that I’m proud to show-off.
Below are a few of the glasses I’ve found at Goodwill.? And today, I even found the mixing glass in the final photo.? Total price, $1.99!

Good luck hunting your own glassware collection!
Cheers!
I always hunt for glasses in our 2nd hand shops, that`s where the good glasses are, at least here.
Nice post.
Cheers!
T
we need goodwills around here!
great bargains, I particularly like that mixing glass.
Great suggestion and nicely done with your glassware finds!
My problem around here is that Orange is FULL of antique shops and the people running those shops are hitting the same goodwill shops and putting those glasses in THEIR shops for $5+. Still not prohibitive, but a lot more than the $.50 I’d like to be spending.
Shhhhhh, Matt! Don’t give them any ideas!!!
Glad I’m not the only one who hits up Goodwill for glassware!
I picked up a set of six champagne saucers (yes, saucers! not flutes) with a 50% discount on them a while back. I almost feel bad paying half price for a charity sale… but that just lets me buy more glasses!
I especially love finding older glasses. They seem to be a bit more sturdy.
Very nice. Love the glasses. You make me want to hit the thrift stores.
I agree so much about Goodwill, and it’s interesting to see how universally useful Goodwill has been in contributing to mixological nerdery.
Estate sales are also a good alternative. I just bought a huge lot from an estate sale. The martine glass you have in the first picture..I got 10 glasses and then a goblet kinda of glass…
Goodwill is good as well
