With all of the aid that is being sent to Haiti in this time of need, it is heart warming to see help coming from the booze industry.
First, there is this story that the Washington Redskins and Diageo are helping out.? Redskins owner Dan Snyder has donated his private plan for Diageo’s use in their Spirit of the Americas Humanitarian Aid program.? This program delivers assistance to locations where disaster has struck.
Second, Clyde Davis, President and Founder of Team Spirits Import Company and friend of the Den,? announced that they are donating a portion of all U.S. sales of Chairman’s Reserve Rum for the next three months to relief efforts in Haiti.? After his announcement, many of his local distributors decided to do the same with their sales.
Third, The Gibson (2009 14th St., NW, Washington, DC), on Wednesday and Thursday donated 100% of the profits from sazeracs and old fashioneds to the Red Cross.? Tonight, Jan. 15, they are donating 100% of the profits from Appleton White rum collins.
Fourth, this coming Monday, Jan. 18, The Passenger along with The Warehouse Theater, Washington Film Institute, and Civilian Art Projects, with generous donations from Chairmen?s Reserve Rum and Hop & Wine, is hosting a fundraiser for Haiti relief.? Here is the notice for the event:
Please join us Monday January 18th from 5 to 8 P.M. at The Passenger for drink specials by guest bartender and cocktail historian Phil Greene of the Museum of the American Cocktail along with Tom and Derek Brown of the Passenger, and a special screening of The Agronomist–a story of strength and hope in the impoverished nation of Haiti–at 7:30 P.M. in the Warehouse Theater. The Passenger and Warehouse Theater are both located at 1021 7th Street.
By joining us you will help us raise money for Haiti disaster relief with 25% of happy hour sales and 100% of gratuity from bartenders and wait staff from The Passenger going to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Cost for attending the film screening is $10, but you may also enter with proof of donation in the amount of $10 or more to any charity working on Haiti disaster relief.
Again, it’s wonderful to see so many people helping out in Haiti’s time of need.? I’m especially proud of my friends here in DC helping out in the best way they can.? I raise a glass to them all.
If you know of any other booze related relief aid, please leave the details in the comments and get the word out however you can – email, Twitter, Facebook, whatever.
Cheers!
