The WSJ has an article about how cognac companies are trying to get a “signature cocktail”, like the mojito was for rum or the Cosmo for citrus flavored vodka, and popularize it.
One they mention in the article is ginger, lemonade, and cognac.
I’ve made more than a few cognac cocktails, though I often use armagnac instead.
What do you think would be a good one for ‘em?
(Yes, I have
and my orange liqueur tasting notes here at work with me – I’ll get to them, I promise! I’ve just had, you know, actual work to do!)
A classic one would be the Sidecar although it might not sound or taste trendy enough.
i’ll give a second vote to sidecar – easy, and the cosmo crowd can have it slushified.
or maybe a japanese cocktail. those are darn tasty.
Rename it, though, and I’d bet you’d get people checking it out.
There’s another cognac cocktail that I’m blanking on that I think would work. Work, brain, damn you, work! Stupid Long Island Iced Tea…
I haven’t had a Japanese Cocktail. I might have to make one of those up sometime soon…like tonight…
There are lots. One that’s pretty popular when I mix at parties is the Hoop La (has other historical names with the same exact recipe). It’s equal parts (3/4 oz) cognac, Lillet blanc, lemon juice, and Cointreau.
My most recent cognac cocktail favorite is the Saratoga Cocktail (1 oz each of cognac, rye, and sweet Vermouth, plus 2 dashes Angostura bitters) which is pretty much a stripped down and less complex Vieux Carre.
